Should I post it on the website or the app?

Should I post it on the website or the app?

This quick quide relates to our school websites/apps.
The question often comes up during the implementation phase of a website and/or app project. Having answered this question many times over the years, I think I have figured out how to make that decision quickly and easily - by asking yourself two simple questions before posting and letting the answers determine the outcome.

The reason for the questions and the relevant outcome is to determine who the audience is for your post and whether you want to maximise any PR/Marketing value from your post.
For posts that have PR/Marketing value and where your audience includes prospective parents and the wider community, it is super important to maximise the reach of the post and its message.

In order to maximise its reach and value on the web, it is important that the post can tap into google search results and benefit your website with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) value. In order to achieve this, it is crucial that the post is created and posted from the website’s content management system, since it is already connected to google search and will automatically benefit from strong SEO value.

Use the below questions to form the basis of your decision. Sometimes, you might need to combine the answers to both questions to determine a more nuanced outcome.

  1. Is this post of interest to our existing parents or prospective parents?

    • Existing parents/students only - post it on the app.

    • Prospective parents/students only - post it on the website.

    • Both prospective and existing parents/students - post it on the website and (if you have one) have it post to the app automatically (with or without an automated notification)

  2. Does this post have PR/Marketing value and/or longevity?

    1. Yes - post it on the website and (if you have one) have it post to the app automatically (with or without an automated notification)

    2. No - post it on the app

I hope this short guide helps you make it quick and easy to determine whether to create a post on your website or app and where to post it. If you have any questions or would like to run a specific scenario past me, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
